   (a) An early flowering plant of the genus Primula (Primula
       vulgaris) closely allied to the cowslip. There are
       several varieties, as the white-, the red-, the
       yellow-flowered, etc. Formerly called also primerole,
       primerolles.
   (b) Any plant of the genus Primula.
