   chamois, prob. fr. OG. gamz, G. gemse.]
   1. (Zool.) A small species of antelope (Rupicapra tragus),
      living on the loftiest mountain ridges of Europe, as the
      Alps, Pyrenees, etc. It possesses remarkable agility, and
      is a favorite object of chase.
