   G. amsel, OHG. amsala, and perh. to L. merula blackbird. Cf.

   One of several species of European thrushes, especially the
   blackbird (Merula merula, or Turdus merula), and the
   mountain or ring ousel (Turdus torquatus). [Written also
   ouzel.]
