Slav \Slav\ (sl[aum]v or sl[a^]v), n.; pl. Slavs. [A word
   originally meaning, intelligible, and used to contrast the
   people so called with foreigners who spoke languages
   unintelligible to the Slavs; akin to OSlav. slovo a word,
