Elaeis \E*l[ae]"is\, n. [NL., fr. Gr. ? olive tree.] (Bot.) A genus of palms. [1913 Webster] Note: El[ae]is Guineensis, the African oil palm, is a tree twenty or thirty feet high, with immense pinnate leaves and large masses of fruit.
